October 2014: The Benefits of Short Term Disability
An unexpected hospital stay, a serious car accident, a heart attack … events like these can happen to anyone – even you.
If something like that did happen, how would you pay your bills while off work for several months? Texas Health offers a Short Term Disability benefit that can protect your family and your finances from an event such as this. Did you know that Short Term Disability also pays benefits during maternity leave?
Here’s how it works:
If you are unable to work due to a disability, your Short Term Disability coverage replaces 60 percent of your base pay, up to $1700 a week. You can choose either a 14-day or 30-day waiting period. The waiting period is the length of time you must be disabled before you qualify to receive benefits. When evaluating your benefits during open enrollment this November, be sure to review your Disability options and pre-existing condition limitations.
