Pre-Authorizations

If you had a medical procedure scheduled requiring a prior authorization from UHC or Texas Health Aetna and it was disrupted due to COVID-19, please check the information below to determine if a second prior authorization will be needed before prior to the rescheduled procedure:

UnitedHealthcare:

A 90-day extension has been granted for prior authorizations with an end date or date of service between March 24, 2020 and May 31, 2020 for any services at any care provider setting. Authorizations issued on or after April 10, 2020 will not be subject to this extension

Texas Health Aetna:

  • Inpatient procedure: your provider must call and update the date of service; prior authorization stands for six months
  • Outpatient procedure: if the prior authorization has expired, your provider will need to contact Texas Health Aetna to review the specific case to determine if another prior authorization will be required

Please be sure to check with your medical plan carrier (either UnitedHealthcare or Texas Health Aetna) prior to your procedure to ensure all requirements have been completed.
