Telehealth Visits

Enrolled in the medical plan with Texas Health Resources? You and your enrolled family members can have a Telehealth visit with a doctor without having to go anywhere. View the information below for instructions for your medical plan option.

Texas Health Aetna Medical Plan Options 

Texas Health Aetna-Anytime MD gives you the ability to connect to a doctor 24/7 for things like coughs, earaches, rashes, urinary tract infections, general health questions and more. The doctor can help schedule an appointment with your doctor or send a prescription to a pharmacy. If you are enrolled in the Texas Health Aetna Select Plan 1000 or Texas Health Aetna Select Plan 3000, Anytime-MD visits are free. UnitedHealthcare Medical Plan Options

With Virtual Visits through UHC, you can see a board-certified doctor by video chat. Most visits take about 15 minutes, and the doctor can send a prescription to your local pharmacy, if needed. If you are enrolled in the UHC 750 or UHC 1000 plan options, Virtual Visits are freeIf you are enrolled in the UHC 1500 plan, Virtual Visits are free after you meet your deductible

    • From your mobile device:
      • Download one of the three mobile apps from the App Store or Google Play™: 
        • Doctor on Demand
        • AmWell 
        • TelADoc
      • The first time you visit one of these mobile apps, set up an account. You’ll be asked to provide medical history, insurance information, pharmacy preference, etc.
      • Each time you visit, you’ll be asked brief medical questions about your current medical concern. Then, you’ll enter a virtual waiting room until you are connected with a board-certified doctor

If you’re enrolled in medical plan with Texas Health Resources and in an eligible ZIP code, get urgent care in the convenience of your own home. DispatchHealth is available 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., 365 days a year and costs the same as an urgent care visit. Connect with DispatchHealth by calling 214-377-1791, visiting their website, or downloading the app. Examples of things DispatchHealth can treat, for pediatrics and adults:

  • respiratory infections (such as bronchitis, croup), sinusitis, sore throat (strep, mono), urine and skin infections, minor trauma (sprains, minor breaks), lacerations, nosebleeds, asthma attacks, allergic reactions, vomiting/diarrhea, inability to urinate, constipation and dehydration.
  • services for individuals with chronic conditions to help avoid the need for hospital admission, such as administering antibiotics via IV and replacing catheters. For example, heart failure patients could receive Lasix at home from DispatchHealth caregivers who work in consultation with the patient’s cardiologist.

If you had a medical procedure scheduled requiring a prior authorization from UHC or Texas Health Aetna and it was disrupted due to COVID-19, please check the information below to determine if a second prior authorization will be needed before prior to the rescheduled procedure:


A 90-day extension has been granted for prior authorizations with an end date or date of service between March 24, 2020 and May 31, 2020 for any services at any care provider setting. Authorizations issued on or after April 10, 2020 will not be subject to this extension

Texas Health Aetna:

  • Inpatient procedure: your provider must call and update the date of service; prior authorization stands for six months
  • Outpatient procedure: if the prior authorization has expired, your provider will need to contact Texas Health Aetna to review the specific case to determine if another prior authorization will be required 

Please be sure to check with your medical plan carrier (either UnitedHealthcare or Texas Health Aetna) prior to your procedure to ensure all requirements have been completed.
